Adobe Photoshop CS4 is a version of the popular Photoshop digital editing software. CS4 features new tools previous versions didn’t have that allow you to take complete control over your digital images. If you’re using a Mac computer and have an older version of Photoshop, you can quickly and easily upgrade to CS4. It will, however, cost you some money — the retail price of the CS4 upgrade in early 2010 is $199.

Step 2
Click “Upgrade.” Rather than purchasing the full program for the full retail price, this will allow you to purchase only the software that can upgrade your version of Photoshop to CS4.

Click on the name of the country in which you live in the next screen. This will take you to the Adobe online store for your area.

Click “Add to Cart” to add the upgrade version of CS4 to your virtual shopping cart. Click “Checkout.” Enter your credit or debit card account number as well as your billing and shipping information. Click “Place Order” to complete your order. Your credit or debit card will be charged, and the Adobe Photoshop CS4 upgrade discs will be sent to your home.

Install the Adobe Photoshop CS4 upgrade (when the discs arrive in your mailbox). Place the installation disc in your computer’s CD-ROM drive and click “Install.” Enter the product key that was included in your packaging, and your version of Adobe Photoshop will be successfully upgraded to CS4.

If you don’t want to wait for the Adobe online store to ship you out your copy of Photoshop CS4 for Mac, you can instead purchase a “digital download.” This will be a complete functioning copy of the program that you download to your computer and install from a file instead of installing from a compact disc. The price for the physical version and the digital version are the same. Keep in mind that the file size of the full program is quite large, so downloading will take some time on slower Internet connections.

When you’re checking out at the Adobe online store, specify that you’d like to purchase the download-able version of the program as opposed to the version that comes shipped to your house.
